Humpback Whales

Humpback whales are "great performers, known for their acrobatic displays, which include arching dives, lobtailing, breaching and fin splashing. In breaching, humpbacks jump almost clear out of the water and then splash down with tremendous force. They save the best performances for breeding time. Sometimes several bull whales will do a series of creashing breaches to gain the favor of a cow, often bashing into one another, even drawing blood, before the most impressive emerges the winner." (Excerpt from Oahu, Lonely Planet Publications, 2000, pg. 31)
