Big Increase in Red Tides in Chinese Coastal Waters

"Two giant toxic red tides engulfed parts of the sea off northeastern China over the weekend [June 12-13], and officials were monitoring seafood for contamination, the China Daily reported on Wednesday [June 16] ... the red tides were part of a rising trend, and in May China's coastal areas were hit by 34 outbreaks affecting more than 10,000 sq km (3,860 sq miles), a rise of 3,000 sq km (1,160 sq miles) from the year before." - excerpt from the ENN article at http://www.enn.com/news/2004-06-17/s_24970.asp
