Los Angeles Agrees to Upgrade Dilapidated Sewer System

"Under the agreement, the city [of Los Angeles] said it would replace at least 488 miles of sewer lines, clean 2,800 miles of sewers every year and increase the system's capacity. It will also improve a program to control the dumping of pollutants like restaurant grease, much of which ends up in storm drains and, eventually, the ocean." - excerpt from the article at http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/07/national/07lawsuit.html at the New York Times (free registration required).
