Manatee Rights

"As an avid boater in the Chesapeake Bay, I have difficulty understanding the anti-manatee sentiment expressed by some Floridians. These creatures do not bother humans. So what if these people can't race boats up and down the canals and other places where manatees swim. Going fast can cause erosion as well as dock and property damage. Besides, viewing manatees while boating would ony add to the experience." - excerpt from a letter from Barney Fedele, appearing in the Smithsonian magazine, April 2004, pg. 17.
