Restore the Long Beach (CA) Shore and Improve Water Quality -- Sink the Breakwater!

"Water quality [of Long Beach, CA beaches] would probably improve because the breakwater would no longer force dirty water from the mouth of the Los Angeles River back against the coast, and the waves would scour and clean the beaches. ...Sea foam created when the waves break can increase the water's oxygen content, further cleaning it." - quote from Hendrik Tolman of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; quote appeared in this Los Angeles Times article. More info from the Long Beach Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
