Over 1,000 Offshore Oil Wells Destroyed by Hurricanes

"The offshore oil and gas industry in the Gulf of Mexico is susceptible to natural and man-made disasters. From 2004-2008, five major hurricanes (Ivan, Katrina, Rita, Gustav, Ike) destroyed 180 structures and 1,070 wells. In December 2010, 85% of the destroyed wells had been decommissioned but more than half of the destroyed structures remain." - excerpt from this report.
