"Lifeguards now patrol the beach in 46 yellow hybrid SUVs on loan from Ford in a deal that gives the automaker use of the beach for promotional events, including one that featured sand sculptures in the shape of its line of vehicles. L.A. County still pulls in $1 million a year from sponsorships and ads on lifeguard towers, telephone booths and trash barrels.
