Seawalls Kill Beaches

"Erecting a seawall against the headland would block the natural transport of sand. Land on either side of the seawall fronting the ocean will recede, and the beach in front of the seawall will gradually disappear. The adjacent perimeter of the island will be starved for sand transported from the walled-off headland. Beaches that now ring Nantucket will gradually disappear." - excerpt from commentary in Providence Journal.
