Blocking the Natural Transport of Sand Creates Problems

"After the federally funded jetties were built in the early 1960s, they blocked the natural eastward movement of sand, depositing it on Seabright Beach and Main Beach. The beaches have continued to widen and extend the sandbar, blocking the river’s flow into the Monterey Bay." - excerpt from article in Santa Cruz Sentinel.
