SAV Beds May Fight Ocean Acidification

New research suggests that coastal ecosystems may be able to combat the effects of ocean acidification and low oxygen levels with submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV). Ecosystems in Chesapeake Bay have proven to have a natural buffering system linked to large SAV beds, which has reduced water carbon dioxide levels and acidification stress in the area.
