Inventory and Perception of Status

Although Alabama is certainly not known as a surfing location, there occasionally are surfable waves in two general areas - along the shores of Dauphin Island, west of Mobile Bay and near the towns of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, east of Mobile Bay. Surfline even provides a map. One of the more well-known spots in the Orange Beach area is Alabama Point. And here is proof you can get barreled in Alabama.

Recognition by State

Alabama does not officially recognize surfing as an economic, cultural, or recreational resource.

Surfrider Foundation Chapters
