Websites

Hawaii's Coastal Zone Management Program website.

The Hawaii Office of Planning, Hawaii Coastal Zone Management Program website is well organized and easy to use. There is good information on beach erosion, coastal hazards and nonpoint source pollution. Information on beach access, beach fill, and shoreline structures is limited.

The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (HDLNR) website has information on beach access, shoreline structures/hazards and water quality, and has links to numerous division websites.

Although relevant statutes and rules are not available via the HCMP website, the HDLNR website does provide access to its administrative rules. All of Hawaii's Statutes are available online.

The HCMP website lists a growing number of publications and has a useful list of links. The HDLNR has several publications available online, among these are State Parks brochures and Mauka and Makai brochures.

The 2006 Coastal Zone Management Program Section 309 Assessment and Strategy is available online.

An aerial photograph analysis (1991) (70MB!) of coastal erosion on all the major islands is available on the HCMP website, as are other documents relating to coastal erosion and coastal hazards. The HDLNR has only limited maps and data available via their website.

There are links to several CZM Partners on the HCMP website.

New (April 2010) on the HCMP website is the Hawai‘i Community Stewardship Directory which is an ongoing effort of the Hawai‘i Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Program to help community groups and organizations connect with each other to share their experiences and lessons learned in natural and cultural resources management. Surfrider Foundation's Hawai‘i chapters and over 100 other organizations are listed.
