Inventory and Perception of Status

While Surfline.com says that Louisiana doesn’t have any identifiable surf spots, they do say that rumors continue to circulate about mysto breaks on the Delta’s barrier islands. Wannasurf.com mentions the Chandeleur Islands, Fourchon, Grand Isle and Holly Beach.

Our local contacts tell us there can be fun surf at the jetty and the state park at Grand Isle.

Needless to say, the coast and the barrier islands took massive hits from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and then by the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, so conditions are in a state of flux.

Recognition by State

Louisiana does not recognize surfing as an economic, cultural, and recreational resource.
