Lots of Shoreline Armoring in Maine
- "The amount of shoreline armoring is estimated to be about 50% of the coast. In 1995 and again in 1999, Maine weakened its retreat policies by allowing seawalls and other shoreline stabilization to be fortified, and by making it easier to rebuild in ocean flood areas after storms." (Excerpt from Surfrider's State of the Beach 2002 report at http://beach.com/stateofthebeach/state.asp?state=ME )
