Record Number of Dam Removals in 2002
- According to the environmental group American Rivers, a record number of dams, 63, in 15 states and the District of Columbia are scheduled for removal in the 2002 calendar year. Given the horrible environmental consequences (such as preventing sand from reaching our beaches) of many outdated and/or ill planned dams, the growing movement to remove dams is very positive, indeed.
