Greenhouse Gas Emissions Decrease in USA in 2001, Largely Due to Slow Economy
- According to the U.S. Department of Energy, annual greenhouse gas emissions decreased for the first time in over a decade, by 1.2% in 2001. From 1991 to 2000, U.S. annual greenhouse gas emissions increased by an average of 1.3% and at the end of 2001 were still 11.9% higher than in 1990. The slow economy in 2001 was the main reason for the decline.
