Biggest Wave
- [The biggest wave ever recorded] was a "splash" generated by a landslip on July 9, 1958, when an earthquake caused nearly 100 million tons of rock and glacial ice from the Fairweather Range of the Saint Elias Mountains to fall into Lituya Bay, Alaska. A wave of almost 1,800 feet - a third of a mile - splashed up the mountain on the opposite shore, stripping it of all vegetation to 1,740 feet..." - excerpt from the book, The Ocean Almanac, by Robert Hendrickson, Doubleday, 1984, pg. 308.
