Tidal Waves Sloshing Between Coasts
- "In the Southern Ocean below the continents, the tide moves around the world as a single diurnal wave. In the ocean basins between continents and in the marginal seas and gulfs, the two tide waves each act as a standing wave, sloshing between coasts, with high tide at one coast and low tide at the other." -excerpt from the book, The Evolving Coast, by Richard A. Davis, Jr., published by Scientific American Library, 1997, pg. 91.
