There's Now More Runoff-Producing, Impervious Surfaces Than There Are Wetlands
- "A recent mapping project by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reveals that "impervious surfaces" meaning roads, housing and other infrastructure, cover nearly 5,500 more square miles in the contiguous United States than all of the nation's remaining wetlands. According to the authors of the study, if all of the roads and other hardened surfaces were consolidated, it would cover the entire state of Ohio." - excerpt from DENlines at http://www.defenders.org/den/dl000119.html#THREE and also see http://www.agu.org/sci_soc/prrl/prrl0423.html
