Shoreline Retreat of 6 Feet Per Year
- "The Outlaw house [in Nags Head in the Outer Banks of NC] has had to be moved three times in the past century. Each time it has been moved some 200 feet back from the advancing shoreline. Thus, 3 X 200' = 600' a century; divided by 100 years, it equals a shoreline retreat of 6 feet a year." - excerpt from the book, The Beaches Are Moving, by Wallace Kaufman and Orrin Pilkey, Anchor Press Doubleday, 1979, pg. 23.
