BEACH Act Funding at Lowest Level Ever for 2008
- Passed in 2000, the Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health (BEACH) Act, was originally slated to receive $30 million in annual funding. Initial funding for the first full year, 2002, however, was only $10 million. Since then, annual funding has been stuck at or just below the $10 million mark. For 2008, proposed BEACH Act funding has been cut a bit more than before, to only $9.75 million. In inflation adjusted dollars, that's a decline of more than 5% from last year's $9.9 million allocation. Read EPA's rosy press release.
