Extraordinary Waves on Lake Michigan
- "In November 1950 extraordinary waves from a storm on Lake Michigan moved a concrete cap on the U.S. Steel Company's breakwater at Gary, Indiana. This cap, 200 feet long and weighing 2,600 tons, moved 3 to 4 feet laterally when pounded by 7.2 second waves about 14 feet high." - excerpt from the book, Waves and Beaches by Willard Bascom, Anchor Books, 1980, pg. 315.
