Surf Sculpturing

"Surf is the chief geologic agent in sculpturing the coasts of the world. Beaches may lose their entire covering of sand in a single storm. ...The severe winter storm that visited the east coast of the United States in March, 1962, not only did unprecedented damage to shore communities, but so greatly changed the bottom topography offshore that official warnings had to be issued that existing charts were virtually useless." - excerpt written by Rachel Carson from the 1963 World Book Year Book, pg. 56.
