Critically endangered North Atlantic right whale population continues to decline
- "For an animal protected under the U.S. Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act, this precipitous decline is a disappointing, tragic failure, one that could have been averted had regulators taken more robust action to reduce mortality. In a letter last month to the U.S. Department of Commerce, 16 scientists representing the North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium noted that the primary causes of growing right whale mortality are collisions with ships and entanglements in fishing gear." - Excerpt from Yale Environment 360.
