In February 2015 Surfrider's Coos Bay Chapter teamed with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Coos Bay District to install two fire pits at Bastendorff Beach. The BLM gave permission to place the fire pits on the property with one placed adjacent to the South Jetty parking lot and the second installed at mid-beach near the main restrooms. The agency also provided the funds to buy the materials to make them. Those materials consisted of cement and rebar. Members of Surfrider poured the cement to make the fire pits from a wooden mold designed by Seth Lucas of Sol Coast Consulting and Design. Surfrider Volunteer Coordinator Annie Pollard designed two emblems made out of ceramic that were placed on the fire pit mid-beach — one with a BLM logo and one with a Surfrider logo — to represent the partnership project. More on this.
