Bangs, Pops, and Whoops from Adult Reef Fish

"Though it may come as a surprise to many human snorkelers, adult reef fish emit a racket of bangs, pops, and whoops that may be audible up to a kilometer away. Because young fish often enter the reef in the dead of night to avoid predators, sientists have suspected that fish floating in open ocean follow a trail of noise back to suitable reefs." -excerpt from http://www.enn.com/news/2003-06-26/s_5779.asp that refers to a study by Stephen Simpson of the University of York.
