Respect the Beach Awards for Junior High Students Robin Danielsen and Eric Keen

"Robin Danielsen's project, "Does Rainfall Predict the Bacterial Levels in the Potomac River?" focused on five locations in the greater DC area. Danielsen explained to the judges that even a rainfall amount of three tenths of an inch can cause an overflow of raw sewage into the Potomac and its tributaries, and provided evidence from the three municipal entities in the area responsible for monitoring overflow events. ...Eric Keen's project, "Testing the Effect of Silver Nanoparticles on Aquatic Organisms," was inspired by hearing that the EPA is probably 20 years away from implementing limits on the use and disposal of silver nanoparticles,..." - excerpt from Surfrider Foundation's MAKING WAVES article, "Chapter News: DC Chapter's 2008 Respect the Beach Awards," July 2008 issue, pg. 16.
