The Water Skee
- "...the water "skee," described in the patent application as providing the "wonderful sensation of shooting through the air and skimming the surface of the water." Consisting of a nine-foot board with an upturned prow, the skee was equipped with a copper air tank at each end for buoyancy. Swimmers straddled the board and used their legs to operate bicycle-type pedals positioned above a propeller. Mounted on theis device, "skee-ers" pedaled out beyond the breakers and rode the waves back into shore as on a surfboard." - excerpt from the book, The Beach: The History of Paradise on Earth, by Lena Lencek and Gideon Bosker, published by Viking Penguin, 1998, pg. 180.
