False Sense of Security in Florida
- "The probability that a hurricane will make landfall at any given point along the [Florida] coast in any one year is low, and the probability that it will be a great hurricane is even lower. But low probabilities stated for any given year give a false sense of security. The lesson of hurricane history tells us that such a storm is likely in the lifetime of a coastal structure." - excerpt from the book, Living with Florida's Atlantic Beaches, published by Duke University Press, pg. 35.
