Hawaii's Seasons

"We generally recognize only two seasons in Hawai'i, as did the early Hawaiians who named them kau, the warm season when the sun is almost directly overhead and winds are reliably from the northeast; and ho'oilo, the season of cooler temperatures, a lower sun, more variable winds, and extensive rains. Summer is usually defined as the period from May through September and winter from October through April." - excerpt from the Atlas of Hawaii, Third Edition, edited by Sonia P. Juvik and James O. Juvik, University of Hawaii Press, 1998, pg. 49.
